Today’s Reading:
John 4:43-54
43When the two days were over, he went from that place to Galilee 44(for Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in the prophet’s own country). 45When he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, since they had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the festival; for they too had gone to the festival.
46Then he came again to Cana in Galilee where he had changed the water into wine. Now there was a royal official whose son lay ill in Capernaum. 47When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” 49The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my little boy dies.” 50Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way. 51As he was going down, his slaves met him and told him that his child was alive. 52So he asked them the hour when he began to recover, and they said to him, “Yesterday at one in the afternoon the fever left him.” 53The father realized that this was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he himself believed, along with his whole household. 54Now this was the second sign that Jesus did after coming from Judea to Galilee.
Today is World Water Day! And while we know how water feels all to well about now, not all people are so lucky. Water is an issue all over the world. How is it that we got to this point that we can’t even work towards everyone having the very basic need of water fulfilled? So it’s about time to change that here in 2011. Think about it! 2011! This is one year after “Back to the Future” predicted crazy futureistic type things and still we are fighting for people to have drinkable water.
So what can you do? Well check out a few informative sites….one of my favs is www.coolpeoplecare.org This site actually outlines small action items everyday and can hook you up with other links and informative ideas. There is even a link to the World Water Day website of all things with important info and cool ideas. You can even watch this video
But how does this connect to Lent, Court? You may ask! Well, in our scripture this morning, the father was just waiting for Jesus to appear out of desperation. He cries out that his son is dying…please heal. Whatever Jesus says next, although important to us, probably sounded like a blur to the father…his kid was dying. We don’t really know of what or how but we know Jesus steps up to the plate and heals. He then calls us to believe through what he has done. Jesus is the man according to the Gospel of John.
It doesn’t really matter what children are dying of but a mass amount of kids all over the wold are dying because of lack of good water. This is an issue. People all over the world struggle for a basic need that we can help heal. This may mean paying more attention, doing a few small things in our lifestyle and even donating a bit o money for this to happen. Jesus is already there to heal…we need to recognize this…but when will we recognize it?
So today inform yourself…get up on your water knowledge. During Lent, awareness is key. And it starts here.
Peace,
Court
