What is that orb up in the sky? Yeah! Sun!

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 121

  I lift up my eyes to the hills —
          from where will my help come?
  My help comes from the LORD,
          who made heaven and earth.

  He will not let your foot be moved;
          he who keeps you will not slumber.
  He who keeps Israel
          will neither slumber nor sleep.

  The LORD is your keeper;
          the LORD is your shade at your right hand.
 The sun shall not strike you by day,
          nor the moon by night.

 The LORD will keep you from all evil;
          he will keep your life.
 The LORD will keep
          your going out and your coming in
          from this time on and for evermore.

Tis the beginning of Holy week and I awoke to miraculous sun that is supposed to accompany us through the week I hear.  This week is an interesting mix of sorrow and celebration…of spring and our own sadness….of expectation and awareness.

I received an email this morning from one of my dearest friends asking for a bit of prayer.  This week will be a hard week for her for many reasons and ultra busy.  What I loved about this email was that she acknowledged that we all have our stuff this week and perhaps we can all use just a bit more help. In this email, she outlines specific things happening in her life and in others and acknowledged that life is much better with her community.

First of all, of course we need to hold each other in prayer this week…this is a crazy week!  There is so much going on, many relationships taking many different turns and in the midst there is the busy-ness of a major holiday for a lot of us.  But in addition, I got to thinking that yes, life is better with.  Life is better with community that surrounds and can be honest about needs and worries.  Life is better when you know that you have people you can send a facebook message to and you know that they have your back.  Life is better when you can share prayers, poems, and check ins.  Life is just better with.

At the end of my friend’s email, she put an amazing poem about when some days you just need God to say, “oh honey…yeah, you can do that.”  And hopefully she won’t mind me reposting that poem here.

God Says Yes To Me
by Kaylin Haught

I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic
and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
she calls me that sometimes
she said you can do just exactly
what you want to
Thanks God I said
And is it even okay if I don’t paragraph
my letters
Sweetcakes God said
who knows where she picked that up
what I’m telling you is
Yes Yes Yes

God says yes to a life in community and with God.  God says yes to lifting up your eyes to the hills to see God.  God is already there and God will be there anyway.  God says yes this morning.
