Good morning on this gorgeous Saturday!
Today’s Reading:
Matthew 27:57-66 (The Message)
The other day I went to Safeway to pick up a few things and had a hankering for some cheerios for the morning. I have read that Cheerios is one of the most healthy cereals out there. So I went directly to the cereal aisle to see this….
If you look closely there are like 5,000 varieties of Cheerios! Chocolate Cheerios….frosted…multigrain…honeynut…frosted with honey, with raisins with strawberries…etc., etc. etc. This is ridiculous! When did it get to the point that to go for a box of Cheerios you needed at least 10 minutes to discern what kind you want? And when did it get to the point that the cheerios section took up a quarter of the cereal aisle?! Wow! I was so overwhelmed. I pondered and even sat in the aisle for a moment contemplating what kind I was hankering. It then came to me…I have other things to do today! So I grabbed my fav, the original Honeynut kind and wandered back through the store to make other decisions.
We have so many choices as people these days! We make so many minute decisions every day. It starts when we get up and start to get through our morning including what to wear. There are times that I feel so immobilized in front of my closet that I just sit on my bed for a minute to take a breather. There will be piles of clothes all around me and somehow I don’t want to wear anything I own. Either I feel fat in that shirt or those pants are kinda baggy…or it just doesn’t feel right and I want to feel pretty cute sometimes. Please tell me you have had those days.
We have soooo many choices! And we like having these choices. We also have choices about how we live day to day and how we commit ourselves to serving others. On Holy Saturday, there is a lull between death and resurrection. There are many choices that we get to make today in how we prepare, how we are people of God, and how we live out our lives.
Anne Lamott just recently wrote a piece about resurrection. Here is the link…

As many of you know, she is one of my favorite authors and theologians. Lamott has an experience where she is trying on outfits and asks a dying friend about how it looks…the friends response is “Annie, you don’t have that kind of time.” Wow, that changes our lives and how we make choices, doesn’t it?
We are people living in the middle of Good Friday and Easter Sunday, how will we choose to live it out? Certainly it won’t be spending a ton of time choosing which Cheerios to eat tomorrow morning. May it be filled with laughter and tears, people that we care about, and dancing in the sun.
Peace,
Court
