Hey all!
Advent is upon us starting today and that means the blog is up and running. I have added you to email list either from last year or from this year’s request. If I have missed someone or someone would like to be added, just let me know. If you miss a day, you can also catch up on the blog site pastorcourt.wordpress.com. If you are new to the blog, I started writing a daily devotional out of a deep yearning for my own spiritual discipline at Lent two years ago. I sat down each morning and mapped out scriptures that I would meditate on from the what is called the daily lectionary and then reflect. A few people saw my blogging and wanted to be added to the list. I then added Advent the next year. I still find reflection during these seasons deeply meaningful and I hope you carve a bit of time to reflect as well. I tend to keep Sundays short due to my timeline on a Sunday morning and hoping that you all have a spiritual home you may visit on Sundays for added reflection. This year I will still meditate on scripture but I might mix it up with other readings and inspirations along the way.

This morning at McMinnville Cooperative Ministries we are starting a new series intended for all of you busy people out there. We are calling it “Spirituality for People Who are Too Busy for Spirituality” or “30 second Spirituality.” We understand that there is great irony in trying to find space for waiting while it seems the schedule goes berserk. So hopefully we will give people tools to find just a moment in the craziness to see God and actively wait for a transforming presence.
Our scripture this morning is Matthew 11:2-6 (New Revised Standard Version)
When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples and said to Jesus, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?’
Jesus answered them, ‘Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.’
I won’t go into too much detail here but basically the question to focus on this morning is “What do you see and hear?” Jesus points out that there is where the answer lies…the thin space…and what we might just be waiting for. Look around! God is doing amazing things! Yes, we may be too busy to wait but in the meantime, this about what is happening now and what is to come!
So the challenge for you this morning is to pause for a moment, close your eyes, take a deep breath…now open your eyes and look again. Where might you see God this morning in the everyday? This may just be the best beginning to Advent ever.
Prayer: O God, help us to look anew this morning. Open our eyes and our ears that we may not get lost in our busy-ness but find a moment during the day to reconnect to your presence. Amen.
