Good morning all! In just a week we will be in the midst of Holy Week…take a breath….
But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” But not all have obeyed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.
To kick off this morning…watch this….
I love this. There are so many little differences in the world that make a huge difference. It starts with a sign that makes you smile and then it takes off.
“The thing that gets me up every morning is to see someone’s face.” “If you have one or two people you could change someone’s day…week…or maybe even life.” I love that this has become this man’s project but he also acknowledges that anyone can do this. I have often thought that perhaps churches should be picking up on this project. What would it be like to stand outside of the church with signs that say, “You are awesome!” “Don’t be so hard on yourself” “We love you!” “You are loved!” So often people expect other signs from churches. I think people expect signs that show judgment…what if we changed that?
And if we don’t send a message of love…who will? Who will spread good news of hope, love and joy? Who will stand up for people and tell them there is grace? That’s what Romans is talking about today. If you don’t say that you bring good news and light…who else will do it? Or better yet…what other message will be spread?
This is one of the main reasons I am a pastor. I want to reclaim the good news in terms of love instead of judgement. I believe there is a message of inclusivity rather than exclusivity. I believe that Jesus’ words have been taken over in order to show condemnation…not love everyone and a restoration of creation. And if I don’t preach it, I can only blame myself for people not hearing it. So I am thinking about making a sign one of these days to hold out there. And when I get discouraged I think of times when I have told people that they are loved and they look at me like they have never heard it before. That matters. That makes a difference. That will preach.
How will you spread news of love and joy?
Peace,
Court
